So rather than getting the nice smooth transition from warm to cold, you get immediately blasted with uncomfort. Once you get up to about two minutes, you can be brave and start your showers with cold water. Do that you about a week, and then try to increase that time. You can start by switching the water during your shower from warm to cold for the last 30 seconds.
